SFLM\u2019s objective was to promote and coordinate all actions enabling the development of lasers\u2019 use in medicine. This society which brought together physicians, scientists and manufacturers, from the very beginning, achieved succesfully its mission. In particular, the SFLM organized one or several congresses every year and wrote books among which the \u00ab encyclop\u00e9die des lasers en m\u00e9decine et chirurgie \u00bb (encyclopedia of lasers in medicine and surgery), edited in 1995. The university degree \u00ab Dipl\u00f4me Interuniversitaire Europ\u00e9en des Lasers M\u00e9dicaux \u00bb was created by one of the founding member of the society. The SFLM is still playing a very active role in this degree\u2019s organization and teaching, thus contributing to the training of numerous physicians. The SFLM was successively led by Pr Maurice Bruhat \u271e \u271e(1981-1988), Pr Jean-Marc Brunetaud (1989-1999), Dr Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Laffitte\u00a0\u271e (2000-2006), Pr. Bertrand Devaux (2007-2010) and Pr. Serge Mordon (2011-2018).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today, both the rise of new technologies and medical needs have led us to extend our field of interest by adding two new fast growing thematics : Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) and Medical Optical Imaging. The SFLM decided to change its name to \u00abSociety Francophone de Photonique M\u00e9dicale\u00bb (Francophone Society of Medical Photonics). SFPMed is a non-profit association which brings together academic researchers, physicians and industrial companies. It is a place of exchange and reflexion for these actors whose aim is to contribute to the knowledge, promotion and evolution of Photonics in the medical field.<\/p>\n<p>Its fields of action include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>organizing and holding an annual congress during the first quarter of the year,<\/li>\n<li>involvement in organizing and holding congresses related to Medical Lasers, Medical Optical Imaging and PDT<\/li>\n<li>a website: <a href=\"https:\/\/sfpmed.org\/\">www.sfpmed.org<\/a>, with a calendar of upcoming events (congresses, workshops &#8230;), scientific and industrial news, useful links, manufacturer presentations and SFPMed congress abstracts and presentations (access restricted to SFPMed members)<\/li>\n<li>regular news mailings,<\/li>\n<li>serve as a representative interlocutor for public (HAS, ANSES, ANSM &#8230;) and professional (SNITEM, Photonics France &#8230;) authorities, as well as for national and international scholarly societies (SFD, SFO,ELA, IPA, GFP2P, &#8230;) regarding the three thematics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;]<div class=\"grve-element grve-box-icon grve-align-center grve-medium\" style=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sfpmed.org\/en\/medical-lasers\/\" target=\"_self\" class=\"\">  <div class=\"grve-wrapper-icon grve-no-shape grve-text-grey\"><i class=\"fa fa-spinner grve-text-primary-1\"><\/i><\/div>  <div class=\"grve-box-content\">      <h5 class=\"grve-box-title grve-h5\">Medical Lasers<\/h5>    <p class=\"\">\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lasers, like other techniques based on the use of a source of energy, are now widespread and used by specialists in the treatment of multiple pathologies (vascular, pigmentary) but also in a frame for aesthetic purposes or comfort. It is important to note that a strong enthusiasm sometimes seizes our patients without guarantee of effectiveness. Doctors must master the parameters of use of a technique for a precise indication with mastered sequences\n\n\n<\/p>  <\/div><\/a><\/div>[\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;]<div class=\"grve-element grve-box-icon grve-align-center grve-medium\" style=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sfpmed.org\/en\/photodynamic-therapy\/\" target=\"_self\" class=\"\">  <div class=\"grve-wrapper-icon grve-no-shape grve-text-grey\"><i class=\"fa fa-asterisk grve-text-primary-1\"><\/i><\/div>  <div class=\"grve-box-content\">      <h5 class=\"grve-box-title grve-h5\">Photodynamic Therapy<\/h5>    <p class=\"\">\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Photodynamic therapy is a method of treatment of certain kinds of cancers that involves the injection (or topical application) of a photoactive molecule (or a precursor of this molecule), which under the action of light, will transform the oxygen present into toxic species leading to the destruction of cancer cells.
